Brasserie D'Achouffe

In 1977, two thirsty brothers-in-law, Pierre Gobron and Chris Bauweraerts, decided to create their own beer in their own brewery. They started what fans of the brewery call a “Chouffe story”, and the magic began. The 1805 farm buildings where Achouffe brews were bought in 1986. In 1988 exports began to Quebec and La Chouffe became the most imported Belgian artisanal beer in Canada. (Exports to the USA followed). In 1990, Achouffe opened a pub in the farm buildings where visitors enjoy Achouffe beers paired with food in a delightful setting.

Today, each fine Achouffe ale, brewed to its own unique recipe, is bottle conditioned, unpasteurised, unfiltered, with no additives or preservatives. Unusual ingredients such as spices, candy sugar, water from the Cedrogne Spring (one of Belgium’s finest), and special hops, create incomparable beers that promise – and deliver – sublime drinking experiences.

1997 Brewery Achouffe named Top Ten Brewery of the Year in World Beer Championships.

1998 La Chouffe wins Strong Ale Gold Medal at Montreal International Beer Championships.

1999 Mc Chouffe wins the Gold Medal at Eurobières, Strasbourg, in the Abbey-style class.

1999 La Chouffe named “Beer of the 20th century” by Bierned, Netherlands consumer panel.

2001 La Chouffe wins Gold Medal at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival.

2002 La Chouffe & Mc Chouffe win Silver Medals at Australian International Beer Awards.

2006 Houblon Chouffe (a new style of Triple/IPA) is created. Medals are sure to come.

La Chouffe

Spiced Golden Ale

La Chouffe is a spiced golden ale. The legend of the gnomes (or Chouffes) who once brewed in this area inspired this lovely golden ale.

Brewed with spices and bottle-conditioned, La Chouffe pours orange-yellow with a lush head. Fruit, hops, and citrus aromas and tastes abound, with a spicy finish.

A refreshing and easy-to-drink beer that's light on the tongue and able to sneak up on you with its well-disguised 8% ABV. An excellent quaffing beer as well as a fine accompaniment to foods that go well with a dry, slighty spicy, fruity white wine.

Mc Chouffe

Strong Brown Ale

Mc Chouffe is strong brown ale. A dark, earthy-hued and spicy strong ale, Mc Chouffe uses Pilsner malts and English Golding and Saaz hops.

The appearance is deep brown and the aroma is fruity and zesty. This is a full-bodied beer with hints of fruit, spice, plums and raisins. It has a complex and lingering finish with a lush and smooth mouth feel. At 8% it is substantially strong, but so well balanced and smooth that drinking it can be deceptive.

An elegant accompaniment to any meal that might call for a substantial red wine.

Houblon Chouffe

Dobbelen IPA Tripel

In his travels around the globe, the little Chouffe wandered through beautiful hop fields. The overwhelming aromas such as Tomahawk, Amarillo and Saaz mesmerized him.

Back at home in the Ardennes he crafted a new beer combining this dizzying array of hops with the depth and body of his favorite style: the Belgian Tripel. The little Chouffe's new inspiration was born as Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel. (Think of it as a 9 abv Double IPA, Belgian Tripel mash-up.) It's a great quaffing beer.

Brewed with spring water, malted barley, hops, and spices including thyme and Curaco orange peel, as well as plenty of dark candy-sugar.

At 10% ABV you can cellar this beer for your future enjoyment or savor it immediately as a fine after-dinner drink. Smooth and soft on the palate, with a silken mouth feel and long finish.
